Cement manufacturing firm - SUHAILS International Limited, official distributors and agents for Lafarge products in Southern Province, has revealed that the country's largest cement manufacturing firm has adequate stocks to meet demand for various construction projects in the province.

Livingstone is currently undertaking a number of projects such as construction of the town centre market, international bus terminus, new stadium, ablution blocks and upgrading of roads among others.

The various projects, which would require huge stocks of cement, are meant to improve the city ahead of the 20th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly which would be held in Livingstone in Zambia and Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe, from August 24 to 29, 2013.

Suhails International Limited manager Freddy Siboleka said the Lafarge Cement Zambia Livingstone depot had more than 9,000 bags of the product to cater for various construction projects in Southern Province.

Mr Siboleka said in an interview that his company, in partnership with Lafarge, would ensure that all Government, private sector and individual projects in Southern province, were supplied with adequate stocks of cement.

Recently, Lafarge Cement Zambia donated 6,000 bags or 300 tonnes of cement to Livingstone City Council valued at more than KR270,000 or K270 million to support the rehabilitation of roads and other infrastructure in the city.

The 600 bags of good cement and 5,400 bags of hard cement would be used to upgrade roads and other projects which have not been included under the works for the August 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly.

Lafarge Cement Zambia Southern Province sales consultant Cynthia Zulu said her firm was happy to support Government infrastructure projects across the country and in particular in the city of Livingstone.

Ms Zulu said Lafarge was committed to ensuring that the developmental agenda of Government was enhanced.

And Livingstone Town Clerk Vivian Chikoti thanked Lafarge for the donation.

Ms Chikoti said the Council was getting ready to work on projects for the UNWTO conference and beyond, to improve the outlook of the tourist capital.

Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union (ZULAWU) Livingstone Branch chairperson Kaluba Masese said part of the donated cement would be used to work on the police post in Highland area.

Mr Masese said markets such Linda, Dambwa Central as well as Dambwa Site and Service, would also be resurfaced while some road potholes would be mended.
