Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) Chairman and Managing Director Salem bin Butti Al Naimi said the company is currently capable of meeting domestic cement demands. QNCC is set to increase its production by 18,000 tonnes-per-day, in addition to 16,000 tonnes-per-day of clinker.

Talking to a section of Arabic dailies, Al Naimi said, in view of Qatar’s huge future demands, the country will keep this surplus production as buffer stocks without exporting the extra quantity. “But we will not hesitate to import If the situation demands”, Al Arab daily quoted Al Naimi as saying.

In the past, when the country‘s domestic demand went up, Qatar had imported cement at a rate of 16,000 tonnes-per-day. Saudi Arabia and UAE are Qatar’s preferred countries of imports. We will be also looking for importing cements from India, China, Egypt and Yemen, he said.
