China's president underscores structural adjustment

Chinese President Hu Jintao urged localities to speed up the industrial structural adjustment and the production mode transformation during his Dec. 21-22 inspection tour in south China's Guangdong Province.

    Hu said that China should take the opportunity of the fast changing industrial structure taking place around the world to quicken its own structural adjustment step and promote the production mode from the extensive style to the intensive one.

During the adjustment process, Hu said, innovation ability should play the key role, pointing to the ability of understanding,absorbing and innovating those advanced technologies, which could be developed as core technologies with China's own intellectual property rights, thus to enhance Chinese enterprises' core competitiveness.

Hu explained how to implement the scientific concept of development in real practice. He said that local governments should go on implementing the central government's policy of enhancing and improving the macro economic control. The work concerning rural areas, agriculture and farmers should be the government's top concern.

    President Hu Jintao visited Guangdong shortly after his trip toMacao to attend celebrations for the 5th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and to participate in the inauguration ofthe second-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
