Tanzania Electric Supply Company Ltd (TANESCO) has signed a power supply contract with Tanga Cement Company Ltd (TCCL), according to local press reports. As part of the contract, TCCL will receive MVA 40 through its substation in Pongwe, Tanzania. This is an improvement on the MVA 20 that the power utility is currently generating through the station. The agreement has been approved and verified by the Energy and Water Utilities Authority (EWURA).

Decklan Mhaiki, Deputy Managing Director (Investments) at TANSECO, told press at a news conference in Dar es Salaam that the agreement to supply power to TCCL’s second substation was made in an attempt to improve the company’s production capacity. The cement manufacturer decided to construct its own substation in order to receive a direct power supply from TANSECO and reduce the risk of interruptions or energy shortages during the production process. TCCL’s Managing Director, Reinhardt Swart, noted that the new agreement will not only boost the company’s production capacity, but will also help to expand its business operations across the country.
