French oil major Total said in a statement its venture capital arm has invested in a process to make sustainable cement and concrete.

Total Energy Ventures has invested in Solidia Technologies, which has developed a process that uses carbon dioxide to cure concrete.

It said this allows for a 70 percent reduction in the carbon footprint of the cement and concrete manufacturing process and allows 60 to 100 percent of the water used to be recycled.
