Cemex nnounced today that the company has now been awarded an extension of the initial contract to supply 350,000 cubic meters of ready-mix concrete for the new Hamburg-Moorburg power plant.

The Hamburg-Moorburg plant, located in the southern part of the city, will be one of the most advanced and efficient coal-fired power plants in the world. Starting 2012, it will produce 11 billion kilowatt hours of electricity a year, covering virtually the entire electricity demand of the Hamburg city and providing around 180,000 households with district heating.

Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, Northern Division, the company responsible for the construction of the plant, deemed both the quality of the building material and the punctuality of its delivery thoroughly convincing.

"Cemex supplies high quality building materials in a timely manner for our customers to finish even the most ambitious large scale projects," says Eric Wittmann, President for Cemex Germany

Cemex started to deliver its building materials in April 2008 for the first phase and has since already produced roughly 310,000 cubic meters of ready-mix concrete. The concrete was produced directly on the construction site using two mobile mixing plants, each with an hourly production capacity of about 100 cubic meters.

"Everything went smoothly, despite the large volumes. It was very helpful in this respect that the maximum transport distance was only 500 m thanks to the mobile mixing plants," says Klaus Georg Kolzer, Project Manager of Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, Northern Division.
