Oficemen, the Spanish cement association, has reported that cement consumption grew 5.4% y/y in May to around 1.02 million t. This is more than 50 000 t ahead of May 2014 figures. In the first five months of the year, Spanish cement consumption reached approximately 4.54 million t, up 8.7% y/y.

This marks a slowdown in growth from the previous month, when cement consumption was up 13.3% y/y at around 0.96 million t and year-to-date growth was 9.7%.

At that time, Oficemen’s Aniceto Zaragoza said that full recovery may not come to Spain’s cement industry until the end of the next decade.
