A delegation from Shandong Kaifa Construction Material Technology Co., Ltd, China, visited Pakistan recently to introduce a new type of eco friendly cement. The delegation was welcomed by President Pak-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shah Faisal Afridi, who said that there was great scope for cooperation between the two countries towards a more environmentally friendly cement industry.

Shah Faisal Afridi noted the huge investment by China in Pakistan in the energy, infrastructure and industry sectors, which create business and employment opportunities. According to a report from PCJCCI Research and Development, Pakistan’s cement industry is lagging behind in terms of technological advancements, while cement demand is speeding ahead, having increased by 50% this year.

Mr Zhang Shi Li, the head of the delegation from Shandong Kaifa Construction, said that reducing the environmental impact of cement production is a high priority for the Chinese government. The delegation presented a chemically modified form of cement that offers high strength and reduced environmental impact, which the company said could be used in the construction of mega structures, such as dams and bridges.

Last month, World Cement reported that Chinese company Yantai Baoqiao Jinhong is preparing to build a US$350 million plant in the Punjab region. The plant will be built with modern and environmentally-friendly Chinese technology.
