The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) today urged the government to end the “unresolved crisis” in the Valley’s cement industry.

“The KCCI is in a state of consternation at the unresolved crisis the cement industry is undergoing because of the tussle between two warring groups of transport unions. The impasse is now completing its second month and it has been marred by lawlessness…The government needs to investigate the monopolistic nature of the demands being made,” KCCI president Mushtaq Ahmad Wani said in a statement.

Wani was referring to the ongoing tussle between two truckers’ unions that has affected cement production and supply from the factories of Khrew in south Kashmir. He also urged the unions to resolve their issues.

“This has adversely affected the interests of the transporters, the villagers, the employees and plant owners, besides causing loss to the government,” he said. — TNS
