Project Overview: Fujian Huaan Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Huaan County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, with a total installed capacity of 1400MW, which is a first-class large (1) project. The main permanent buildings are designed as Grade 1 buildings, and the secondary permanent buildings are designed as Grade 3 buildings. The upper reservoir is located at the source of the Mount Hua gully in Huashan Village, Xinwei Town, with a catchment area of 5.3 km2 above the dam site. The normal water level of the upper reservoir is 701.0 m, and the dead water level is 674. The lower reservoir is located at the middle and lower reaches of the Mount Hua gully, with a catchment area of 15. The normal water level of the lower reservoir is 234.0 m. Dead water level 198. The main structures of the hydropower station project are composed of the upper reservoir, the lower reservoir, the water conveyance system, the underground powerhouse and the switch station. The main dam of the upper reservoir is a rockfill dam with an asphalt concrete core, with a crest elevation of 705.5m, a maximum dam height of 55.5m and a crest length of 295. The auxiliary dam is a slag dam with a concrete cut-off wall, with a crest elevation of 705.5m, a maximum dam height of 13.0m and a crest length of 73. The vertical spillway tunnel of the upper reservoir is located on the left bank of the dam. The total length is about 288. The dam of the lower reservoir is a rockfill dam with asphalt concrete core, with a crest elevation of 238.50 m, a maximum dam height of 98.5m and a crest length of 371. The shaft spillway tunnel of the lower reservoir is located on the left bank of the dam, with a total length of about 532.
The water conveyance and power generation system is arranged in the mountain between the upper and lower reservoirs, with a two-tunnel and four-unit layout. The water conveyance system mainly includes upper reservoir inlet/outlet, upper diversion adit, upper diversion inclined shaft, middle diversion adit, lower diversion inclined shaft, lower diversion adit, diversion bifurcation, diversion branch pipe, tailrace branch pipe, tailrace bifurcation, tailrace surge chamber, tailrace tunnel, lower reservoir inlet/outlet, etc. The total length of the water conveyance system is about 3981.6m (along 1 # unit), of which the total length of the water diversion system is about 1528.1m, and the total length of the tailrace system is about 2453. The elevation of the water diversion system is arranged in a two-stage inclined shaft, and the steel plate lining is used from the end of the upper diversion adit. The elevation of tailrace system adopts the layout form of "one slope to the bottom". The underground powerhouse caverns mainly adopt the parallel arrangement of the main and auxiliary powerhouse caverns, the main transformer cavern and the tail gate cavern. The dimensions of the main and auxiliary powerhouse tunnels are 180 × 25.5 × 56.7 m (L × W × H), the dimensions of the main transformer tunnel are 185 × 20 × 23 m (L × W × H), and four bus tunnels, one access tunnel and one access cable tunnel are arranged between the two tunnels. The excavation size of the tail gate tunnel is 112.
