Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan recently announced that the Yatimtak cement production project in Jowzjan province has officially broken ground. The plant, with a total investment of $160 million, is one of the landmark industrial projects in Afghanistan's recent infrastructure modernization process. The new facility has a design capacity of 3,000 tons of cement per day,
according to Hamayoun Afghanistan, a spokesman for the Ministry of Mines. In addition to production functions, the project is expected to inject significant momentum into the local economy, create about 5000 direct and indirect jobs for the surrounding residents, and play an important role in promoting regional employment.
From the perspective of national strategy, the construction of Yatimtak Cement Plant is an important measure for Afghanistan to enhance its independent manufacturing capacity of building materials and significantly reduce its dependence on foreign imports. The Government is currently preparing or advancing similar industrial projects in other provinces, with the aim of fostering cement production as a central pillar of the country's industrial development and thereby underpinning Afghanistan's long-term macroeconomic stability. Through the nationwide distribution of cement production capacity, the Afghan government hopes to gradually establish a relatively complete local building materials supply chain, laying a solid industrial foundation for the subsequent large-scale infrastructure reconstruction and economic development.
