On January 17, the Uganda Moroto 6000t/d clinker cement production line (Phase I) invested and constructed by Yaobai International Holding Co., Ltd. was successfully ignited, marking that the project formally entered the trial production stage and laying a solid foundation for the commissioning of the whole line. Guests such as Peter Lokeris, Governor of Karamoja Province, Kwikiriza Benon, Representative of the President, and Obwoch Santo, Minister of Karamoja Province, were invited to attend the ignition ceremony. More than 100 people, including Wang Fayin, Vice President of Western Cement, relevant leaders of partners, Zigong Transport Aircraft, Sinoma Construction and other participating units, and staff representatives of Uganda Company, attended the ceremony and witnessed this important moment. Located about 460 kilometers north of Kampala, the capital of Uganda,
the project is an important part of the regional layout of Western Cement in Africa. As the first cement production line constructed by the Group in the mode of "parallel contracting", the core technical equipment of the project adopts the international leading Humboldt six-stage preheater, fourth-generation grate cooler and other thermal processes, with a designed clinker capacity of 6000 t/d and an actual capacity of 6500-7000 t/d. It is the benchmark project with the highest production capacity and the best equipment in the same scale production line at home and abroad.
Since Ugandan President Museveni personally laid the foundation for the project on September 12, 2023, the project team has overcome a series of practical difficulties such as weak infrastructure lines, long material transportation cycle and seasonal variability, scientifically organized construction, rationally coordinated resources, closely adhered to the four themes of "intelligence, environmental protection, green, science and technology", and made every effort to promote the construction of the project. Finally, the project was ignited and put into operation on schedule, which not only reflects the tenacity and professionalism of the project team, but also demonstrates the strong ability of Western Cement to carry out major projects overseas. After the completion of the
project, the total cement production capacity will exceed 3 million tons, and the annual business income is expected to reach more than 400 million US dollars, which can not only meet the domestic market demand of Uganda, but also radiate the surrounding areas such as South Sudan, Eastern Congo (DRC) and Western Kenya, so as to reduce the foreign exchange expenditure of clinker imports and achieve export earnings. Strong support for Uganda's national economic development.
In addition, the company has always adhered to localized development and actively fulfilled its social responsibilities. During the construction of the project, a large number of jobs have been created for the local people, and it is expected that more than 3000 people will be employed after the completion of the project, and the development of building materials, logistics and other related industries will be promoted. The company also promises to build community health centers, subsidize poor students, train professional and technical personnel, and continue to contribute to local communities.
The successful ignition is another milestone in the development of Western Cement in Africa, and also opens the prelude to the full operation of the project in 2026.
