Although Laos has its own cement plant, the amount of cement imported from foreign countries is still increasing every year. For example, in the past 2018, Laos imported more than 10 million US dollars worth of cement in the whole year, and the value of cement imported in the first seven months of this year was more than 4.2 million US dollars. This shows that Laos still needs to rely on imported cement to meet domestic needs, because domestic production can not meet the quality and quantity required by the market. < br/>

According to the statistics in 2018, there were 13 cement plants in Laos, and 9 cement plants were engaged in production and sales from 2013 to 2015, including 1 in Luang Prabang, 2 in Vang Vieng, 2 in Vientiane and 1 in Savannakhet. By 2016, three factories were added, located in Xayaburi, Chuan Mine and Khammouan Province.
By 2017, another one was added, and the total productivity of 13 cement plants was more than 8 million tons per year.
In addition, the government has approved the construction of four new cement plants in Oudomxay, Luang Prabang, Khammouane and Savannakhet provinces, contributing more than 3 million tons to domestic cement production. If all the cement plants are produced, the production capacity will reach 12 million tons. < br/>

In recent years, although the cement production in Laos is increasing, it still needs to be imported to meet the market demand.
