The Swiss Times quoted Agence France-Presse on August 17 as saying that Lafarge Holcim Cement Group announced on August 17 that it had reached an agreement with BIRLA Limited to sell its assets worth 750 million Swiss francs in India. LafargeHolcim Group sold the asset mainly to raise funds and continue to reduce liabilities. The deal is subject to approval by India's Competition Commission.
After 15 months of preparation and negotiation, Lafarge of France and Holcim Group of Switzerland finally formally merged in mid-July this year, which will achieve a synergy target of up to 1.5 billion Swiss francs (about 1.4 billion euros).
