Lafarge Invests Rs 700 Crore to Expand Capacity of Chhattisgarh Cement Plant in India

    Lafarge India, the Indian arm of Lafarge, plans to invest 7 billion rupees ( $156 million) to increase the capacity of its cement plant in Chhattisgarh to 3.5 million tons per year from 1.5 million tons per year.
 
    The Indian government has expressed strong support for Lafarge to expand its Chhattisgarh cement plant, which will create more jobs in the region.
 
    Lafarge entered the Indian market after buying Tisco's cement plant in 1999. There are now three cement plants in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, India, with a total annual production capacity of 5 million tons.
