Recently, important progress has been made in the core area of the Shanghai Grand Opera House project, which was constructed by the Fourth Construction Group of Shanghai Construction Engineering. The ninth phase of C70 concrete pouring has been completed, the core area has been capped, and a "Chinese fan" is slowly unfolding.

Shanghai Grand Opera House is located in the Expo Cultural Park, with a total floor area of more than 140,000 square meters. It has three opera halls of different sizes, which can meet the performance of Chinese national operas and Western classical operas at the same time. It will become the cultural giant of the Asian Performing Arts Center in the future. The whole building of Shanghai Grand Opera House takes the meaning of "Chinese Fan". The huge staircase spirals up and extends into the air, just like the handle of a folding fan. The spiral roof is also a stage for the public, which can not only hold large-scale activities, but also provide fun for the daily visits of public tourists. The exterior of the building adopts glass curtain wall, which has a wide field of vision, and people can enjoy the scenery of the Expo Cultural Park inside the building.
In order to make the most beautiful "Chinese Fan" blossom in the Huangpu River, a large number of new technologies, new technologies and new materials have been used in the construction process. The core area of "fan axis" is divided into three areas A, B and C. Area is a cantilevered staircase structure with a maximum length of 15 meters, Area B is a double-helix free-form concrete shell with a thickness of 1.2-1.5 meters, and Area C is a steel structure roof for building access. Among them, the section height of the cantilevered stair beam in Area is limited by the size of the building, which is only 725 mm high, and it is difficult to achieve the shape by conventional processes such as steel structure. Therefore, the structure in Area is made of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), which is the first large-scale single stress component in the building structure in China. The construction of the core area of
Shanghai Grand Opera House started from the hoisting of the first beam of Area and the pouring of the first section of Area B in November 2022. Up to now, nine stages of construction, 62 UHPC precast beams hoisting and prestressed tensioning, 1560 square hyperboloid thick shell and core column concrete pouring have been completed, and the stage goal of capping the core area structure has been successfully achieved.
