Recently, Samsung SDI announced that its American subsidiary (SDIA) recently signed an energy storage system (ESS) battery supply contract with an American head energy company. The total value of the contract is about 1.5 trillion won ( $1 billion).
It is reported that these batteries will be produced in the Indiana factory jointly established by SDI and Stellantis, which was previously dedicated to the production of power batteries with an original capacity of 30 GWh, and the latter three quarters of the production line will be used to produce energy storage batteries . The planned production capacity is about 21 GWh, which will be put into operation by the end of 2026.
At present, the demand for electricity in AI data centers in the United States is soaring, the expansion of the power grid is accelerating, and technology giants such as Microsoft and Google have promised to supply electricity independently, directly boosting the demand for energy storage installations.
The agency predicts that the global installed capacity of energy storage will increase by 60% in 2026, with a compound growth rate of 30% -50% from 2027 to 2029, and the energy storage market at home and abroad will usher in a period of rapid development.
