Regarding the rumors of withdrawing from the European market, a spokesman for South Korean photovoltaic company Qcells (Hanwha's company) recently responded positively in an interview with the media.
Earlier, there was a rumor in the photovoltaic industry that Qcells planned to shut down its European business in early 2027 and prepare to withdraw from the European market. The speculation stems from reports that the company's products are being sold at low prices.
In response, a Qcells spokesman rejected the rumor, saying: "Qcells will not stop operating in Europe." However, the spokesman also revealed that after continuing to review and closely monitor the operations of its subsidiaries, the company has decided to refocus its German subsidiary's business on R & D.
The spokesman disclosed that the decision involved a new round of business restructuring, which would cut some jobs in sales and business development departments.
In addition, there are rumors that Qcells may completely withdraw from the field of photovoltaic manufacturing. In response, the spokesman also denied, saying: "In the core business areas of R & D, photovoltaic cells and modules , the company will formulate strategies according to the global market situation and economic benefits, and all other regional businesses, including the US business, will remain unchanged at present."
Earlier, in September 2025, Qcells told the media that due to the cost pressure brought by the downward price of photovoltaic modules and energy storage equipment , as well as the weak market demand in Germany, the company adjusted its sales strategy in Germany, stopping the direct sale of photovoltaic products in Germany, and increasing the sales of photovoltaic products in Germany. Instead, it will be sold through a network of 1000 authorized distributors.
With the adjustment of sales strategy, some of the company's jobs in Europe were eliminated, but the company did not disclose the number of employees affected. The company stressed that two sites in Germany would be retained: Berlin for sales and administration, and Bitfeld-Wolfen for research and development, focusing on perovskite stacks.
According to the latest response, the sales and business development departments of Qcells German subsidiary will face further adjustments, among which the sales department in Berlin has been listed as the target of abolition, while the Bitfeld-Wolfen R & D Center will remain.
