On February 28, P. Chidambaram, India's finance minister, summarized the economic performance of the current fiscal year and announced the federal budget for the 2007-2008 fiscal year. Among them, the federal government imposed a double tax on cement products, that is, the domestic tax on cement products sold at 190 rupees (about $4.27) per bag of 50 kilograms was reduced from 400 rupees to 350 rupees (about $7.87), and the domestic tax on cement above this price was increased by 70% to 600 rupees (about $13.5). Domestic cement producers in India will raise the price of cement to offset the loss caused by the high tax rate. On the day of the announcement, the stock of cement companies on the Mumbai Stock Exchange fell sharply by 6%. < BR >
