Recently, the Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, an Australian investment institution, announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the local government. A polysilicon plant is planned for Queensland (Northern Quartz Campus). The project
will rely on the adjacent large-scale photovoltaic energy storage project to supply power, using the local quartz raw materials in Queensland, with a maximum annual output of 150000 tons of metallurgical grade silicon. Up to 100000 tons of raw materials will be further purified to more than 99.9999% purity of photovoltaic silicon materials , which will be supplied to the local market and exported overseas. The total investment of the
project has been raised from 8 billion Australian yuan in the early stage to 10 billion Australian yuan at present, and it is planned to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2026, complete in the third quarter of 2029 and put into operation in 2030.
According to the incomplete statistics of digital new energy , at present, 8 enterprises have announced that they have planned/built polysilicon manufacturing plants overseas, involving more than 500000 tons of production capacity (including semiconductor grade). In addition, in early July, it was reported that Musk also planned to build 400000 tons of polysilicon plants and had finalized contracts with two partners, but the news has not yet been confirmed.
