On September 10, Lineage, the world's largest temperature-controlled warehousing operator, filed a civil lawsuit in the Los Angeles High Court against Altus Power, a photovoltaic operator, and its contractor for Pearce Services LLC. The two claimed more than $1 billion in compensation for negligence in operation and maintenance that led to a major fire in their Los Angeles refrigerated warehouse. The
warehouse caught fire on June 17 this year and burned for eight days, triggering a local emergency. About 38.5554 million kilograms of frozen food were affected. The related clean-up work was completed on September 5. Lineage has invested more than $100 million in this regard. Lineage said that the rooftop photovoltaic array involved had caused a small fire in August 2024, and more than 200 connector failures were subsequently detected, and the company had written on June 11 that the other party should not restore power supply before completing key safety tests. However, Altus and Pearce still electrified the rooftop photovoltaic power generation system from June 5 to 17 without completing the security check, which eventually caused a fire when Pearce personnel were working live. The
local fire department has not yet released the final results of the fire investigation. Both Altus and Pearce denied the allegations. The former said the lawsuit was full of misinformation and Lineage was evading its responsibility. The latter said the cause of the accident was still under investigation and it was too early to draw a conclusion at this stage.
