In 2025, the global cement and clinker shipping market experienced significant growth, with cargo volume jumping by 13% year-on-year, mainly due to the explosive expansion of demand in the Atlantic coast of Africa. In the first 11 months of this year, exports to the region surged 39% year-on-year, becoming the core engine of global trade, according to Filipe Guvia, manager of shipping analysis at the Baltic International Shipping Council (BIMCO). This growth is rooted in the rapid development of the local economy, the acceleration of urbanization and the large-scale development of infrastructure projects, and the continuous activity of the construction industry has directly boosted the demand for cement. It is worth noting that the vast majority of countries in the region have insufficient domestic production capacity and are highly dependent on imports, especially in the production of clinker, a key intermediate product. Even countries with grinding plants have to import a large amount of clinker, which further boosts the demand for bulk cargo transportation.
