Senegal have risen significantly in recent days, rising to 68000 to 70000 CFA francs per ton, an increase of 3000 to 5000 CFA francs. Local dealers generally attributed the price increase to the "ex-factory price increase" and stressed that they were only passively following. Prices at the
retail end also fluctuated significantly: from CFAF 3,250 per bag of cement to CFAF 3,500, and from CFAF 65,000 to CFAF 68,000 per ton. A merchant said bluntly: "The ex-factory price has risen to 60,000 or even 63,000, and we can't sell it at 65,000." The words reveal the helplessness of the compressed profit space.
In the Thiaroye Gare market, another wholesaler further confirmed this trend. He disclosed that the arrival cost of each ton of cement has climbed from 65,000 CFA francs to 70,000 CFA francs, including transportation costs. "We can't control the price increase," he stressed. "As long as the ex-factory price moves, the terminal price can only be adjusted accordingly."
From the factory to the market, price transmission is almost synchronized, and every bag and ton of cement that consumers face is paying for the increase in upstream costs.
