According to media reports on June 6, Weilai Automobile will develop and supply power batteries for McLaren, a British supercar brand, for the latter's hybrid models.
It is reported that the relevant battery packs will be built on the basis of 4680 large cylindrical batteries from Weilai Research Institute, and are expected to be produced in small batches next year.
Weilai Battery R & D Team was set up in 2021, and in September of that year, it released a 75kWh ternary iron-lithium battery developed in cooperation with Ningde Times.
However, the plan could not catch up with the changes, and it was not long before Weilai spread the news of layoffs and divestiture of the battery department, forcing the big column project to basically come to a standstill.
This cooperation is promoted by CYVN, the Middle East gold owner of Weilai. CYVN acquired McLaren's automotive business and part of its racing business last year, the report said.
