Malaysian Bureau of Statistics on March 1, 2026, the building materials price index in February 2026 showed a trend of differentiation. Compared with the same period last year, the cement unit price index increased by 0.8%, while the steel price index decreased by 1.2%. This data reflects the latest trend in the cost of raw materials in the Malaysian construction market.
Cement prices rose across the board, with Pahang leading the increase.
Malaysia's chief statistician, Datuk Seri Mohd Ur Mahidin, pointed out in the February 2026 Construction Cost Index report released on the same day that cement prices rose across all parts of the West Malaysia Peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak. Among them, Pahang state rose the most, reaching 5.9%, followed by Perak state, up 5.5%, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Negeri Sembilan four places rose 5.1%.
According to the month-on-month data, the cement unit price index in February 2026 increased by 0.2% to 1.1% compared with January. Kuching in Sarawak saw the most notable increase of 1.1%, while Perak rose 0.4%.
